The soil is essentially pure dune sand, which means loose, shifting, and utterly unforgiving of improperly installed hardscape. Salt exposure is constant — the ocean is steps away, and even sound-side properties get salt-laden wind year-round. The terrain is flat, which means drainage has to be engineered, not assumed. And the barrier-island geography makes Surf City one of the most hurricane-exposed communities on the East Coast, with storm-surge zones running clear across the island during major events.

We build for every one of those realities. Our Topsail paver installations use deeper compacted stone bases than inland projects, with geotextile fabrics to hold the sub-base together over time.
